Questions & Answers

What is MRI?

MRI is a diagnostic imaging tool that uses a magnetic field and computer-generated radio waves to produce detailed anatomical images. These are helpful to your ordering physician for properly diagnosing and treating your condition. These are typically ordered when the doctor is concerned that enough detail may not be provided from x-ray or ultrasound imaging.

Compared to typical MRI’s our machine is small and very quiet, patients are reporting that compared to previous scanning services, ours is relaxing, quiet and not claustrophobic.

How much does it cost?

Our self pay rate is $325 per image. Insurance rates vary and your financial responsibility is dependent on coverage details such as copay, coinsurance, and deductibles.

Who will interpret my images?

Your ordering physician is trained to interpret your MRI. However, we also contract with a group of radiology providers who will give an official reading of your results.

What if I am claustrophobic?

No problem! Only the limb requiring imaging is placed in the imaging equipment. In fact, compared to typical MRI’s our machine is small and very quiet, patients are reporting that compared to previous scanning services, ours is relaxing, quiet and not claustrophobic.

What are contraindications for receiving an MRI (reasons you are not a good candidate for this type of imaging)?
There are health problems and implants that are problematic for this type of imaging. Some of those include:

  1. Heart conditions that require a pacemaker
  2. Artificial heart valves
  3. Electronic stimulators
  4. Electronic inner ear implants
  5. Implanted pumps
  6. Metal fragments in eyes
  7. Surgical clips in the head like aneurysm clips
What should I expect at my imaging appointment?
Please wear shorts or a shirt that will not cover the area being scanned. A private changing room and bathroom are available if needed with lockers to protect valuables. Scans normally take 30-45 minutes, during which time you will recline comfortably on a lounge type exam chair. The entire appointment generally takes less than one hour.

We have three Podiatrists on site. If you call ahead, you can often schedule an appointment to follow up on the MRI immediately after the scan is completed with a podiatrist.
